I'd like to see another such distribution certainly (though I'm still hoping my art entry wins ) - and a similarly rerunnable lottery-quest would keep me busy for a week - but I cannot see it fitting with the Mad King's Guard mini.

* 10 Of the prizes are nothing but the MKG mini.

* The other 10 are combinations which include an already available art book and last year's expo art print which, if we're honest, are likely already in the hands of the artistic mega-fans who are likely to win this contest.

* People who hand-stitch GW costumes or sculpt life-size golems = people willing to make the bazillion runs it takes to get Polar Bear rarity minis, or have a mountian of wealth to trade for it.

So giving the MKG mini away from a quest chain this year would pretty much be defiling the whole annual art contest; heck - if the update goes live a week before Halloween the demographic in question would quite likely have a MKG mini before the results are even announced!

Another Polar Bear model distributed mini = good.
Mad King's Guard distributed by Polar Bear model too = kicking the mega-fans.
Great point. Let's face it, this year's prizes are CRAP. Instead of getting several-hundred-dollar packages of games and hardware like previous winners, the TOP THREE get... a book ($30), a print ($5), and a mini (no IRL value). Whoooo. Everyone else gets a mini and (if you're in the top 7) the five-buck print. Whoop-de-doo. Can't the winners at least be consoled by the fact that their mini is nigh priceless ingame?

Personally, I want them to come pre-dedicated. If I win I'm keeping mine. I get everything I need ingame selling commissions anyway.

Minis....um, yea, you don't own them. Anet could take that (Zhed?) you have tomorrow and there'd be nothing you could do.
On the other hand you could sell it before anet takes that (Zhed?), pile some ecto, and get currency for it.

Oh wow, another Wall Street quant that can't see the stupid assumptions he's making...in the making.

Two reasons that minis appreciated:
1) because ANet kept them limited rather than making tons more
2) because ANet decided to start giving away ectos and zkeys en masse.

Reason #1 can be violated at any time without recourse by existing mini owners. The investment has risk. It could become worth less than the PvE title at a moment's notice.
